Prepare A Detailed
Estimate For Repairs
The process begins with a detailed estimate, detailing all of the repairs necessary to restore your vehicle to pre-collision condition. The vehicle is inspected and relevant data is compiled into an estimate that determines the cost of repairs. This can be done at our shop with an appointment, drop-offs are also welcome. There is also the alternative of online and mobile estimates for your convenience. When the estimate is complete the insurance company will determine if the vehicle is even repairable. Once this process is completed, the vehicle begins the actual repair process and the parts will then be ordered.
Repairing & Replacing
Original parts will be repaired, and whenever appropriate, the severely damaged parts will need to be replaced. In some cases, parts not included on the estimate may need to be ordered during the repair process if “hidden” damage is found. During this process, the frame is restored to the factory specification. As the body repairs continue, the vehicle begins to come back to life as everything is installed and aligned.
Ready For Paint
After repairs are complete, the vehicle is ready to be painted. The repaired areas are first finely sanded, primer and corrosion protection products are applied, and areas that won’t be painted are “masked off” and protected. The painter then uses a paint mixing system to mix the paint that will match your vehicle’s finish. A paint code on your vehicle provides the starting point, but our paint specialists are trained to match the paint to your vehicle’s exact color. The paint is sprayed inside a spray booth designed to keep dust and other contaminants off the new finish.
Once the painting is complete, the vehicle is reassembled with all final moldings and detail pieces. If any new glass is needed, it is usually installed at this point. The vehicle is almost complete and ready for delivery at this stage.
Interior & Exterior
Next, your vehicle will be taken to the detailing area for a thorough interior and exterior cleaning. The new paint surface will be polished and buffed. A final inspection checks that all work meets our standards and the final paperwork is prepared for the vehicle owner and the involved insurer.
Northeast Collision will work alongside the customer and the insurance company throughout the process to make it as easy as possible. The insurer may want to review the estimate and inspect the vehicle before or during the repair process.
Completion & Delivery
Delivery of the repaired vehicle is the last step in the process. When the customer arrives to pick up the vehicle, the bill will be explained and any final paperwork will be completed. Another satisfied customer drives away in a vehicle that has been restored to its pre-accident condition or better.
